“I spent 18 months or so taking weekly/bi-weekly lessons with Matt to get me into a position where I could pass my practical driving test, which I passed on my second attempt.

The 18 months is on me because driving doesn’t come naturally to me, and I learn out of necessity rather than want. Matt persevered, even though I was sure he would sack me as a pupil almost on a weekly basis, and he was incredibly supportive in changing things up to get me to the point where I was comfortable.

Matt is super organised and reliable with bookings. He has a step-by-step plan to ensure that you’re competent in every aspect of what you will be tested on by an examiner, and he will cover all the possible test areas around Exeter on your lessons.

As a person, Matt has a great sense of humour and it’s easy to have a chat with him while you’re driving. He is respectful and polite and will listen and adapt to any issues you’re having with learning.

“I had been learning to drive on & off for 10 years before I met Matt. Years between lessons & tests in all different parts of the country had shattered my confidence & I didn’t even want to get in the car ! Matt is so patient & supportive, the lesson plans gave me a focus but they were flexible so if I’d left my brain behind or was too stressed we could tackle a difficult task the following week. The key was his sense of humour & total confidence that eventually I’d crack it. His mock tests are strict so you know if you pass them you have a good chance of passing the real thing. A great piece of advice he gave about other drivers behaving badly “don’t worry about them, let them go off & find their accident elsewhere”. I will remember that when someone is ‘bumper snogging’ my car ! A year ago just seeing L plates filled me with panic, but last week I passed my test with one minor !! I can’t recommend Matt highly enough, especially if you are nervous or have a messy driving history. He just didn’t give up on me. It was intensive but Matt was brilliant at ensuring that we only progressed once I was comfortable with the skill.
